Sofia Pereira (SP) holds a degree in Biology (2001), MSc in Toxicology (2004) and a PhD in Biology (2010) from Aveiro University (Portugal). Currently, she is Researcher and Invited Assistant Professor at Centro Biotecnologia e Química Fina, Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Her scientific activity is primarily focused on advancing biotechnological approaches for sustainable and resilient agriculture, as well as the restoration of degraded areas, with a particular emphasis on environmental and agricultural biotechnology. SP has published over 50 papers in peer review international journals and book chapters and 2 technical guides. She co-authored an international patent and has more than 95 communications in scientific international/national conferences, including 28 oral presentations. SP has been involved in 12 national and EU-funded research projects focused on plant-microbe interactions and stresses. SP holds the positions of Associate Editor at Frontiers in Plant Science and Academic Editor at Plants journal and PLOS One.
SP has been involved in the supervision of students from different academic levels, including PhD (including scientific support to several international PhD), MSc and undergraduate students (e.g., ERASMUS+). SP has also been dedicated to teaching at undergraduate (Regent of Mycology, UCP) and post-graduate levels.
SP actively engages in outreach and communication efforts aimed at bridging the gap between science, technology, and society. She organizes seminars, workshops, and demonstration sessions to disseminate scientific knowledge to diverse audiences. Additionally, SP collaborates on press releases and invited talks to communicate research findings effectively to the public.
